Stone countertops elevate kitchen decor

Look to your countertops to create a wow factor in your kitchen. If you choose natural stone, you'll add a luxurious element that complements any cabinet and appliance style. Stone comes in many colors, and accessories can be matched to the colors you choose. Two contrasting colors, black and white, are popular today, and both offer an upscale look. Staggs Floor Covering brings the latest countertop styles to the Marion, Indiana area.

Granite countertops

Homeowners choose granite for their countertops more often than any other natural stone. Granite most often has speckles of colors, but some stones have long elegant veins. The durable countertops, cut from a pure granite slab, resist scratches, stains, water, and heat. The stone must be sealed every year. Granite comes in thousands of colors as well as a wide variety of veining patterns. Rare colors and veining patterns are more costly. Blue is the rarest color. This type of countertop, prized by homeowners, can increase the value of a home.

Marble and more

While granite is the perennial top choice, other stones like marble and soapstone are just as eye-catching. Marble countertops are available in many colors and patterns. The porous stone needs to be sealed periodically. Marble won’t chip or dent, and it’s heat resistant. Soapstone is available in a limited number of colors that tend to be darker than other stones. Heat resistant soapstone does not need to be sealed. The stone is not affected by acids, and it doesn’t stain.

Quartz

Quartz, an alternative to natural stone, is composed of quartz crystals and resin. Kitchen countertops come in a wide variety of colors and patterns that often mimic the patterns found in natural stone. Countertops made with this engineered stone are virtually maintenance-free. Like soapstone, the nonporous material does not need to be sealed. It is heat and impact resistant. Also, it tolerates acids and resists stains and scratches. Quartz is one of the hardest materials available, making it more durable than granite.
